Because of the amazing demand in the US, which saw queues of people lining up quite reminiscent to the iPhone launches, and big demand in the UK, Vodafone Australia has decided to avoid any “bad press” of users unable to get the Storm on launch day by getting in a second shipment of stock to keep as many CrackBerry addicts as happy as possible on Friday the 5th of December. In two days, Thursday November 27, Vodafone says it will “email all prospective customers who have preregistered for BlackBerry Storm, inviting them to complete their Storm purchase online.” These customers will get a bonus “promotional” 8GB microSD card, and will also be able to receive their BlackBerry Storms on December 4th by special courier direct from the warehouse, a day earlier and a nice bonus, especially given the new “retail store availability” delay from Dec 1 to Dec 5. Russell Hewitt, CEO at Vodafone Australia, said: “BlackBerry Storm has sparked the imagination and anticipation of Vodafone customers around the world. In the UK, we’ve been selling a Vodafone Storm every 13 seconds, and on the basis of demand from our pre-registration process, which is well into the thousands, we’re expecting demand to be just as hot here in Australia.” Vodafone BlackBerry Storm customers will also be the beneficiaries of a heavy subsidy of $0 upfront, with “unlimited BlackBerry email and internet from as little as $69 per month”, which Vodafone says encouraged “a deluge of online pre-registrations.” However those pre-registrations have now closed, so a retail store visit and a potential queue awaits.
