The first 4K Super High Definition video stream to Australia has just been delivered to the University of Queensland. The 4K format has been proposed as a standard for the digital distribution of movies to theatres.Featured Whitepaper

The Australian part of the network was provided by AARNet (the Australian Academic and Research Network), and involved a dedicated 10G circuit to the laboratory. The demonstration involved the transmission of multiple 4K streams of scientific content between Australia, Korea, Japan, Russia, Czech Republic and three locations in the United States. Each site was able to simultaneously display multiple 4K streams plus HD video conferencing feeds. 4K Super High Definition images have a resolution four times that of a 1920 x 1080 HD TV picture. "AARNet's collaboration with its partners for this experiment has demonstrated how technology can be developed to enable real-time international collaboration while reducing the cost," said Chris Hancock, CEO of AARNet.
