There is a whole other world out there, inhabited by 13 million digital avatars looking for loot.  Many of their human controllers will be lining up for the next release in the World of Warcraft phenomon; Wrath of the Lich King is about to be unleashed.

The second expansion for the wildly popular massive multiplayer online role play game (MMORPG  phew!) World of Warcraft, will hit store shelves tonight.

Titled Wrath of the Lich King like its predecessor - The Burning Crusade – new areas of Azeroth will be open to all players, from the highest level Night Elf sorceress to the lowliest gold farmer.

Wrath of the Lich King introduces the northern continent of Northrend, a new Death Knight Hero class along with new arenas, siege weaponry, battlegrounds, destructible buildings, a new profession (Inscription) and most importantly new customisable hairstyles and dances.

The Burning Crusade sold 2.4 million units in the first 24 hours, but industry analysts are expecting Wrath of the Lich King to more than double this record, 5 million units is the current betting.

Locally, Blizzard is hoping to fan the sales flames by offering loot for the faithful.  In Sydney, in particular Blizzard is hoping to attract a new hoard of Lich King devotees.

From the Australian Blizzard PR desk: Blizzard Entertainment is excited to announce the details of the loot 'prize' packs that *World of Warcraft* fans will have a chance to win at the event.

These include some spectacular items that money can't buy, such as stunning limited edition *World of Warcraft* posters signed by the development team, limited edition *World of Warcraft* authenticators to keep your treasures safe and a range of sweet Blizzard swag direct from BlizzCon, including a *Diablo III* 'Health Orb' stress ball and *StarCraft II* 'Zerg Creep' complete with a burrowed Hydralisk!

To round out the loot, the prize packs also include classic Blizzard games, and a selection of Warcraft action figures and figurines that would make any collector envious!

If you're feeling lucky, head down to EB Games at 340 George Street in the
Sydney CBD from 10pm on Thursday night to see if you can score some epic gear.

No matter where you are in the world though, if you are a WOW fan, on your bike now to beat the hoards forming raid teams right now.
