November Patch Tuesday: the calm after the storm? E-mail
by Stephen Withers
Friday, 07 November 2008
After all the excitement of November 4, Windows administrators can look forward to a relatively peaceful November 11 with just two updates being foreshadowed by Microsoft.

Yes, Patch Tuesday will soon be on us again. But unlike last month's hefty 12-bulletin release, only two bulletins are scheduled for November: one critical, the other important.

The critical bulletin involves a remote code execution vulnerability, and relates to XML Core Services in Windows 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista and Server 2008, plus Office 2003, 2007, Expression Web (including version 2), SharePoint Server 2007 and Groove Server 2007.

The important bulletin addresses another remote code execution vulnerability that affects the same set of operating systems, but not the applications or non-Windows-Server products.

As usual, Microsoft will also update the Malicious Software Removal Tool and the Windows Mail Junk E-mail Filter.
