In the old days, before the world of online, the only way to find out about upcoming movies was in magazines, newspapers, on TV and on the radio, and while all those mediums are still in use today, the Internet is the way to go to deliver far more and even make money before the movie gets to theatres. Given that teens are also known for pirating movies over the Internet, any and all legal income sources for a movie are very welcome to movie studios, because every little bit helps to offset what are multi-million productions, if not $100m plus productions, depending of course on the movie in question. So it should come as no surprise that Disney has indeed created a promotional site for High School Musical 3, but what is a bit of a surprise is that they’re doing it in conjunction with Telstra and BigPond. The promotional site has been live since late last month and offers all kinds of free and paid content fans will enjoy. There are “exclusive video and clips” to watch including interviews with the cast, “never before seen behind-the-scenes footage from High School Musical 2” and an “exclusive Big Screen video featuring the movie’s cast and crew”, the trailer and other clips. There’s the movie’s soundtrack which will be available for purchase in MP3 format two weeks before being released elsewhere, three free online games, a range of text interviews and articles with and on the stars and writers, and mobile content to buy including ringtones, wallpapers, animated screensavers, caller tones and even a mobile game. There’s also a poll and a link to rent the High School Musical 2 “extended edition” DVD from BigPond’s online DVD rental store. Continued on page 2. |
