Google Earth on iPhone rocks! E-mail

Got an iPhone? Then you gotta get Google Earth and literally take it for a spin!

Google might have created its own gPhone, but with Eric Schmidt still on Apple’s board, the two companies are still mighty friendly and there’s no way Google would ignore the iPhone juggernaut.

So, it should come as no surprise that Google is still busily supporting all mobile devices including the iPhone, with an iPhone version of Google Earth finally arriving and using all the multi-touch and accelerometer goodness iPhone users are well accustomed to.

The Google Mobile blog and the Google LatLong blog have cross-posted the same info on the new release, promising to allow “you to fly to the far reaches of the world from the palm of your hand.”

Naturally the app works on the both the original iPhone and the iPhone 3G, and it’s a very slick piece of work that has already received a massive popularity rank within the iTunes store.

Google say that since it launched “Google Earth for the desktop in 2005, [it has] had over 400 million unique downloads, and people from around the world have used it to view their house, research travel destinations, learn how to make the world a better place, find local businesses, and view geo-located photos.”

“Now”, promise Google, “with a free download from the iTunes App Store, you can fly through the same 3D immersive world of Google Earth you've come to love, without having to fire up your desktop computer.”

Google’s blog, linked above, has a nifty video of the app in action, although if you’re an iPhone or iPod Touch owner, just download the app instead and try it out live.

Google say the app is convenient, but even better is the “the touch interface” which is a “very natural way to interact with the Earth.”
