BlackBerry flips into the market with BlackBerry Pearl Flip E-mail

As you’d imagine, BlackBerry’s new flip phone has all the major features you’d expect of any modern phone, flip or otherwise.

This includes the compact design, phone, email, messaging, organiser, browser and multimedia applications.

There’s also the now expected 2 megapixel camera with flash, digital zoom and the ability to record video, along with a media player and more, with the actual interface looking essentially identical to the BlackBerry Bold, just on a different sized screen.

And because the BlackBerry is a smartphone, and has been for some time, it also supports “thousands of third-party mobile lifestyle and business applications”.

The Pearl Flip also has the same souped-up browser found in the BlackBerry Bold, offering either “Column View” or “Page View” along with different emulation settings, allowing users to “choose between desktop-style HTML content and the mobile version of web pages”.

And like the BlackBerry Bold (but unlike the upcoming BlackBerry Storm), the Pearl Flip is endowed with Wi-Fi, so you can access “enterprise wireless networks and Wi-Fi hotspots.”

Although there is no outright purchase price as yet for the Pearl Flip, Optus customers will be able to buy one from the end of October 2008 on a “$0 upfront on the business or consumer BlackBerry $79 Cap per month plan.

You can also get on-phone access to sites such as Flickr, MySpace, Facebook and others, matching the BlackBerry’s strengths of a very easy to use keyboard with your desire to socially network with your friends, photos and more.

Other features include: Speaker Independent Voice Recognition (SIVR) for Voice Activated Dialling (VAD), support for mp3 ring tones, smart dialling, conference calling, speed dialling, call forwarding, voicemail attachment playback and enhanced background noise cancellation.

What other features are within? Flip on over to page 3...
