Britney Spears, the toxic, womanizing, hit-generating tweeter? E-mail

Oops... Britney Spears has done it again, thrusting herself into the limelight with a new website that has garnered over a million hits in 24 hours, taking on the social networking world with an all out “friend” assault and tweeting like a song bird on the messaging website Twitter.

Britney Spears, the American pop starlet that goes in and out of the news for all the right and wrong reasons is not only making her latest musical comeback, but an online comeback too.

You can visit Britney’s updated website and see videos of her in action, become her friend on social networking sites Facebook and MySpace, check out her YouTube channel, and follow her exploits via Twitter, according to CNet’s wittily (or is that twittlity?) titled article, “Tweet me, baby, one more time”.

Looking through some of the tweets at Spears’ twitter page (called “The Real Britney”) it’s clear that while some of the messages are coming directly from Britney, even if someone else is typing them for her, other messages have clearly been written by her “team”.

Indeed, team member “Lauren” states in answer to a question: “We'll never use a bot. Updates will be on status news music life fans by her team and Brit herself. By Lauren.”

The Twitter website makes it easy for anyone to follow Britney’s exploits or directly get her messages, bypassing celebrity magazines and even needing to dig through her main website, which can instead focus on longer, meatier stories.

For example, Britney shares how excited she is that her main site has garnered over a million hits within 24 hours, making her “fans the best in the world”, and how her new single, Womanizer, has already hit the #1 spot.

As this article is written, Spears has 3733 followers on Twitter, 1550 people following now, and 23 updates.

The real issue here is that Twitter may well be finally going "mainstream" thanks to the pulling power of Britney Spears...

So, if you’re a fan of Britney, and a fan of Twitter, all your dreams must be coming true at once, and you can enjoy Britney tweeting you as many times as you care to visit “The Real Britney!”.
