Dubbed by Asus as “the supermodel of netbooks”, the S101 Eee PC is now
on sale at “select retailers” in Australia, but while its size is
positivelEee ultra trim, it’s a shame the $999 price isn’t also on a
diet, although you can't expect Asus to give the S101 away for frEee!Featured Whitepaper

That said, after the S102 there’ll bEee an S103, so Asus are clearly kEeeping that one up their slEeeves for a future time. With actual specs that are little different from other 1.6GHz Intel Atom-powered netbooks already on the market, whether from Asus or its growing number of competitors, the only thing that sets the S101 apart is its MacBook Air-like anorexia, which is bad for runway models and other humans but always appreciated on ever thinner technology. Laying it on as thicklEee as possible in linking the S101 to the world of high fashion, the press release for the S101 states it is “stunningly styled for the fabulous fashionista, the Eee PC S101 cuts a prominent profile that complements the inner supermodel.” And if you’re going to try to compete on looks, you truly do need to make sure you’re not wearing the same suit or dress as anyone else coming to the party (lest there be some testy tantrums). Thus, Asus has set out to ensure the S101 “strikes a pose in three gorgeous and glistening colours – Brown, Champagne or Graphite”, with the S101 even given premium Infusion finishes and crystal-adorned hinges.” Despite the price, I’m sure they aren’t Swarovski crystals, or the price would be higher still, but a bit of bling on your techno toys is no bad thing – if you’re into that kind of thing to begin with. Because if not, the S101 will have little appeal to you, given that you can spend a few hundred dollars less on an Asus 1000H series device, as I explored in my recent article questioning whether the S101 was worth buying, or not. Maybe then you buy some real Swarovski crystals instead with the change... So, if you’re still wondering about the S101 Eee PC and haven’t yet sEeen the specs, please rEeead on to page 2... |
