BioShock finally hits PS3 disc drives today.  The expanded underworld of Rapture can now be enjoyed by Sony's console owners, and with even greater challenges. [UPDATE] See the trailer for BioShock 2 found at the end of the PS3 version.

Initially denied for the PS3, BioShock has enthralled a large audience on both PC and Xbox 360 platforms for sometime now.

As of today though, PS3er's can enjoy the atmosphere and horror of Andrew Ryan's water logged dystopia.

“We are very excited to bring BioShock to an entirely new audience of gamers,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “With its new features and the PS3 exclusive downloadable content, we are confident that players will have even more reasons to fall in love with the unique and unforgettable world of Rapture.”

On the PS3 players will have access to the 'Survivor' difficulty mode, making life in Rapture that much harder.

According to 2K this means; “The enemy population numbers haven't changed, but every single enemy is tougher and deals more damage to you. Additionally, if you die and resurrect at a Vita-Chamber, you get less EVE back, so death has a real sting to it. “

Furthermore, PS3 owners will get trophy support (Xbox 360 owners will argue the uniqueness of this, but still, trophies will be fun).

There will also be further – unspecified at the time of writing – downloadable content via the PlayStation Network as of November 20th.  It is also unclear how much, if anything, the new content will cost.
