Always one to promote its online services, Telstra is again using the
BigPond website and its Next G network to “exclusively preview” the
second trailer of Baz Luhrman’s “epic Australia movie” 24 hours before
it is released to other mediums. Featured Whitepaper

Australians are instead forced by Telstra’s, Terria’s and the Australian Government’s constant infighting and inaction to ask of the No Bloody Network: “where the bloody hell are ya?”. No such questions can be asked however of the second trailer of Baz Luhrmann’s “epic” Australia movie, starring Hugh Jackmann and Nicole Kidman, because Telstra are making it easy for us by giving us a firm date on that one. The date is, perhaps unsurprisingly, tomorrow. 9am on Friday the 17th of October, anyone visiting Bigpond.com or having access to a Next G mobile phone can watch the trailer 24 hours before the trailer is released to the general media on Saturday. Telstra doesn't mention it but it's very likely the iPhone 3G running on Telstra's Next G network will miss out on the streaming opportunity, despite being best placed to view the trailer as a portable movie viewing device. Billed as a “must see epic cinematic event of the year”, the movie is a romantic action-adventure and will be released to cinemas on November 26, and if the theatrical pirates are organised, will probably be illegally released to the Internet on November 27 – if not sooner. Group Managing Director Telstra Media, Justin Milne, said Telstra BigPond is “proud to be bringing Australian’s closer to the excitement of the movie on their Next G mobiles and BigPond.com. “We had a huge response from fans following the first Australia trailer release, which was introduced by Nicole Kidman. This time around, in addition to the trailer, we will be adding even more exclusive Australia content online and on mobiles; including exclusive video featurettes, behind the scenes interviews and coverage from the making of the movie. "We are delighted to be partnering with 20th Century Fox to present the Australia trailer using our full-screen digital online player. This offers high-quality streaming technology, meaning viewers will see the trailer in premium video quality,” Milne continued. Managing Director, 20th Century Fox, Mr Marcos Oliveira, said: “We are thrilled to be working with Telstra BigPond on the launch of the latest Australia trailer. Baz Luhrmann has created a truly spectacular cinematic experience and Telstra's integrated media-communications approach and outstanding networks will allow us to share this sneak peak to the film with consumers all over the country.” Telstra is letting BigPond or Next G customers view the Australia trailer-ia “free”, meaning no data charges will be levied, although Telstra does warn that non-BigPond subscribers or non-Next G customers somehow watching it on their non-Next G phones “may be subject to data charges” as you’d expect. After all this build up, the movie had better be a smashing box office success, or moviegoers may well be asking “what the bloody hell was that?!”. Update 17-10-2008: Well, I've seen the trailer, and if the movie is as good as the trailer makes out, it should be a box-office smash. That said, trailers and actual movies are not one and the same, but so far, it's looking good! We'll find out come Nov 26... |
