In a typical household, over 12 percent of the power bill goes on the small amounts of power consumed by devices in standby mode.  Are you a gamer?  Well ratchet that figure up considerably further.  TrickleStar have a device to save that waste.  iTWire spoke to co-founder Bernard Emby recently.

Look around your house; see all those little red lights showing your electrical devices are ready to spring to life at the push of a remote control?  Those little red lights represent at least 12 percent of your household power consumption as they slowly eek power from the grid.

Speaking to Bernard Emby, co-founder of TrickleStar on a recent whirlwind tour of Melbourne, revealed an effective way to reduce this household power waste.

TrickleStar have developed two energy saving devices to rid us of the little red light drain.

“We have developed these relatively low cost products to address clusters of devices, so, the PC desktop area and then the home theatre/home entertainment area.” Emby said.

The first device is aimed at the PC market, targeting the home desktop. “ I know in my own situation I have a big monitor, two printers, router, modem, phone charger, speakers and more,” Emby said “We were interested in, when a computer shuts down; most of these devices are not used, so we wanted a very simple way to switch all those devices off”tricklestar11.jpg

With a USB connection, the PC Standby Power Saver detects when a PC is powered on or off.  When this occurs, the other connection is plugged into a standard power board, toggling the flow of electricity to the board as required.

In effect, switching on the peripheral devices only when required, that is when the PC is on.
