Page 2 of 2 Probably because ads for mobile devices are still relatively new (even though Google has displayed properly formatted Google text ads on mobile searches in its mobile formatted sites for a while now), only “four percent of users tapped into advertising, nearly a quarter noticed advertising but did not click through.”Featured Whitepaper

Keynote says 60% of Yahoo! users reported frustration, compared with only 33% of Fox News users doing the same. And what were these frustrations? They included “site errors, cluttered pages, poor site speed as well as excessive scrolling. Path analysis reveals how users encountered and attempted to work around these issues.” I wonder if any of those “site errors” included Flash videos not loading at all, or if they did (because, for example, they were YouTube links) they loaded in the iPhone’s separate YouTube application? And there were some specific “unexpected findings” which included a lack of visual appeal and difficulties around the search feature.” Dan Richards, the senior product manager at Keynote said that: “The iPhone is a breakthrough mobile smart phone, but our Keynote WebEffective study shows that the user experience of surfing Web sites is not. “There are some areas of usability that need to be perfected for end users to be fully satisfied. Mobile Web designers are having to learn and adapt to a brand new world,” he concluded. So, the mobile Internet revolution is upon us, but despite the iPhone being with us for more than a year, and other smartphones having been able to browse the web for some time now, it still looks like it’s the “early days” of a sophisticated mobile web experience – despite the sophistication of the iPhone and Mobile Safari itself. Although as mobile browsing continues exploding in popularity, these issues are clearly being worked on and fixed – hopefully Keynote’s next report (or one from another similar analyst/testing company) reports much improved results! iTWire itself now has a dedicated mobile version, just visit http://www.itwire.mobi or http://mobile.itwire.com on your phone, be it an iPhone, Nokia, Windows Mobile or other smartphone, while the regular http://www.itwire.com can be accessed, too. Happy mobile surfing - and let us know what you think of our mobile sites on whichever smartphone you access them on! |
