The article “Male Axillary Extracts Contain Pheromones that Affect Pulsatile Secretion of Luteinizing Hormone and Mood in Women Recipients” is published in the journal Biology of Reproduction. Ok, it sounds like a complicated article but it really is just talking about men's armpit sweat and women's sex drive. Its authors are George Preti, Charles J. Wysocki, Kurt T. Barnhart, Steven J. Sondheimer, and James J. Leyden, all from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, U.S.A. George Preti, of the Monell Chemical Senses Center at the University of Pennsylvania, led the study undertaken to study a group of women. In the study, the researchers placed pads under the armpits of male participants in order to collect sweat. The sweat was then concentrated and its scent masked with fragrance. (It must have been a strong fragrance!) The mixture was, then, placed under the noses of the female participants. What was the results of the study?
