Cornered!
Cornered! is a blog devoted, most of the time anyway, to telecommunications: local and global issues, technology, people and trends from the perspective of someone who's been reporting, analysing and commenting on the industry since the dark ages (BC - before competition). Sometimes serious, sometimes flippant, sometimes frivolous. Controversial, analytical, informative, amusing, but never boring; a vehicle for examinations of important issues and observations on my encounters and experiences in an industry where polarised views and hyperbole are the norm.

Drama + Porn + The Net (does not equal) The Archers E-mail

With the claim that "The Archers was Never Like This!" clickforeplay  has introduced downloadable short-form 'adult' radio dramas "designed to stimulate listeners' imagination."

The Archers? It's a radio soap opera that has been running daily on the BBC for at least 60 years. When I was a lad in the UK it was "an everyday story of country folk" centred around the Archer family. Nothing to do with archery. And very definitely nothing to do with porn!

Well, I suppose clickforeplay (http://www.clickforeplay.com ) does make a change from the deluge of naked flesh engaged in almost every variation of sexual activities available on the Net. And at just £2.99 per 'play', it  probably competes well on price.

You can download them to your MP3 player, PC or other device and, according to clickforeplay, you'll get "accessible erotic plays, professionally scripted, produced and acted." It says they've been introduced "in response to increasing demand for stimulating and sophisticated erotic entertainment."

And it promises to provide "a constantly updated library of plays based on 'it-could-happen-to-me' scenarios" that are always available when it suits the listener.

Yeah sure, like: "When a young research assistant synthesises a new compound, his boss is about to haul him over the coals for using a contaminated ingredient. However, she begins to realise that this new substance seems to have a curious effect on her..." Happens every day.

At least it's more likely than "In a remote gothic library, a young man has been set to research the papers of Lord Ruthven, and comes across a reference he doesn't understand. What are the 'rites' celebrated at Medmenham? Why does the owner of the library urge him not to linger after dark? When he does, who are the young ladies he meets, and why are they so incredibly forward?"

Why indeed. And, if these plot lines don't grab you, suggest your own. Clickforeplay says that "listeners will also be able to suggest plots from their own lives and fantasies for clickforeplay's scriptwriters to develop."

Clickforeplay CEO and founder, Lud Romano, claims that "Short downloadable audio plays are a natural step forward when you consider the increasing demand for quality erotic entertainment coupled with the growing appetite for downloading content...These plays will enhance listeners' private moments, either alone or with a partner, or even on the train, bus or in the bath."

So next time you see a fellow passenger with a faraway look in their eyes...
