Pacnet has become the second Australian ISP after People Telecom to offer Telstra ADSL2+ services; as part of a wider $35m per year whole-of-business agreement with Telstra Wholesale.

Pacnet will offer services from 23 September from all 1400 Telstra ADSL2+ enabled exchanges at prices starting from $74.95 per month and aimed at both consumers and SMBs. It will also offer ADSL2+ services to   large organisations to enable them to y integrate these into their MPLS networks. ADSL2+ products will also be offered bundled with PSTN voice services.

People Telecom signed the first ADSL2+ wholesale deal with Telstra in August. However it has yet to launch ADSL2+ services. The company gave no date for launch when it announced the deal with Telstra, saying only that ADSL2+ would be rolled out '"in all major states and regional areas" in coming weeks."

Pacnet says its whole of business deal with Telstra Wholesale will enable it to offer a comprehensive suite voice and data services from Telstra including PSTN, ISDN, ADSL1, ADSL2+, transmission, business grade metro ethernet, carrier grade ethernet and international services such as international private lines and Internet transit.

Pacnet was formed in January 2008 by the merger of Singapore based ISP Pacific Internet, already very active in Australia, with regional submarine cable systems owner Asia Netcom.

The company said: "The deal with Telstra complements Pacnet's existing Australian network and the company's EAC-C2C subsea cable infrastructure across AsiaPac to provide carrier grade telecom and Internet services to business and consumer customers across Asia, coupled with diverse last mile access capabilities into domestic customers within the Australian market." Its own cable network does not, however, extend into Australia.
