No WinPwn for iPhone OS 2.1 yet - but promised soon E-mail

As a Windows-using iPhone 2G owner myself, previously running a pwned version of the iPhone OS 2.0.1 software, with jailbreaking and unlocking applied, I was waiting for the new WinPwn software so I could create my own custom firmware and take advantage of the numerous bug-fixes and performance enhancements that the iPhone OS 2.1 offers.

And, being an impatient kind of fellow when it comes to improvements to my beloved little iPhone, I just didn’t want to wait for WinPwn to arrive.

Yes, I know there’s a stack of really cool unauthorised third party software out there, but I’ve been busy too, of late, and have been having tons of fun just playing with the App Store apps, of which there are now over 3000, according to Apple.

So, when I discovered that I could simply “update” (and NOT restore) my iPhone 2G, via iTunes 8, to the latest iPhone OS 2.1, I did it.

What did I lose? Access to the jailbreak, so no Cydia or Installer 4 for me.

But it’s only temporary – once the newest version of WinPwn is made available, I can create my own new custom firmware, and this time use iTunes 8 to “restore” my iPhone with that custom firmware bundle.

Once I’ve done so, I’ll then have access to the iTunes App Store, as well as all those unauthorised third party apps.

But until then, I’m happily enjoying the improvements that OS 2.1 offers, safe and secure in the knowledge that an ever growing number of unauthorised third-party apps will be at my disposal to enjoy in the very near future!
