Apple iPod upgrade fatigue? I don’t think so E-mail

CRN blogger Brian Kramer is suffering a bout of iPod upgrade fatigue, despite the fact he thinks he’ll buy one anyway, already owns an iPod and is a Mac user. Too bad for Kraemer he isn’t as funny as the real Kramer, who looks a heck of a lot funnier than Jerry Seinfeld in the new Microsoft ad!

Brian Kraemer, blogger at CRN in the US, has written what I suppose is meant to be a funny article about iPod upgrade fatigue.

The thing is, when Apple comes out the other end of the Christmas/holiday/end-of-year sales bonanza at the top of the mp3/media player charts, it will hardly be a bout of fatigue that got them there, but tons of loyal iPod owners upgrading to the latest and greatest, and lots of new iPod converts enjoying their nano-chromatic toys.

Yes, Steve Jobs has taken the opportunity to lower the price of the 8GB model by US $50, as Kraemer notes, but that’s hardly a bad thing. Lower prices make products more affordable to consumers.

And consumers will be happy to save some money, because they’ll need to spend another US $29 on buying the new Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic – soon to sell for AUD $48 – which bring a super-elegant remote control to pause, play, skip forward one track, skip back a track, change the volume up or down, and also record voice notes to a compatible iPod through a built-in microphone on the back.

In essence, Apple has finally added – admittedly through a third party accessory – a microphone recording option of its own to the iPod range.

Sure, third party voice recording has been possible for some time with iPods over the generations using plug-in microphones, but it’s the first time Apple itself has offered the feature, or at least, as far as I am aware.

But do these headphones work with older iPod models? Please read on to page 2.
