The Front Row 2.1.6 update provides compatibility with iTunes 8.0 plus unspecified bug fixes. Apple has not described the changes delivered in version 1.1 of the MobileMe Control Panel.

Also new is revised software for the iPod touch. Version 2.1 fixes a bug that allowed one third-party application to read another's files, includes an updated version of the open source FreeType font engine, implements source port and transaction ID randomisation to reduce the risk of DNS cache poisoning, randomises TCP sequence numbers, and fixes a CSS bug that could be used to execute arbitrary code when a malicious web page is viewed.

It seems that iTunes 8 is a prerequisite for installing the 2.1 update on an iPod touch.

A corresponding update for the iPhone is expected on Friday, and hopefully will include further fixes for the reception problems that have been plaguing some owners.

Read about this month's security patches from Microsoft.
