New versions of MYOB's FirstEdge and AccountEdge accounting packages for the Mac deliver improved integration with Mac OS X features, as well as a range of other improvements.

FirstEdge is a relatively simple package aimed primarily at the sole trader that needs to track customers, jobs, sales, bank accounts and of course cope with the GST. AccountEdge is intended for small businesses with up to 20 employees, and adds payroll and inventory to the basic accounting functions

The new versions of FirstEdge (v4, $149) and AccountEdge (v8, $595) feature iCal and Address Book integration, online backup to MobileMe accounts, and "advanced AppleScript support" allowing the creation of custom workflows.

Refinements have been made in the areas of search, remittance advices, receipts, and general usability.

Other changes mean custom reports and filters can be saved for reuse, forms can be previewed before printing or emailing, and statements can be generated showing only those transactions that occurred on or before the statement date.

New to AccountEdge is a feature called Business Insights, which graphically presents standard business rations to show how the organisation is travelling.

What other changes have been made to AccountEdge? See page two.
