The auctions are being held by domain asset management company, Monitor.com and if sums paid during the earlier 'land rush' allocation are any indication large sums will change hands. The record price paid so far for a dotme name was $US68,000 for Insure.Me. Only.Me and the rather limited Oglasi.Me (Serbian for 'advertiser') both went for more than $30,000. Dotme is not the creation of ICANN, simply the country domain of the world's newest nation, Montenegro, once part of Yugoslavia. It declared independence on June 3, 2006 and on June 28, 2006, became the 192nd member state of the United Nations, and on May 11, 2007, the 47th member state of the Council of Europe. It has enlisted the help of GoDaddy, the world's largest domain registrar to help it cash in on dotme. In July 2008 Go Daddy claimed "the most successful new domain name launch in history" saying it received 20,000 applications in the first 24 hours of .me domain name registrations going live. Dotme sites are now operating: a Google search on the word 'the' with duplicates removed returned 605 entries (from a total of 247,000 English pages) with some intriguing specimens: Roundandbrown.Me; chastitybelt.me; erectile-dysfunction.me (no thank you!); blacklesbians.me; watchseinfeld.me; detoxify.me.
