Ever wondered if your choice of IT career was the wrong one? If you are not a database manager, developer or administrator you might want to look away now... Database administration and development is the place to be, at least in the US market. That is the conclusion of the US Bureau of Labor Statistics in the latest 2008/2009 Occupational Outlook Handbook. Featured Whitepaper
5 Best Practices for Smartphone Support
In actual fact, the Bureau reckons computer scientists and database admins will grow, as an occupation, much faster than the average across all occupations. How fast? How does 37 percent through 2016 grab you? This growth and demand is, of course, reflected in salaries. The handbook reveals median annual earnings, based upon 2006 statistics, for database administrators of USD $64,670. It says that the middle 50 percent earned between USD $48,560 and USD $84,830 while the lowest 10 percent earned less than USD $37,350, and the highest 10 percent earned more than USD $103,010. For database administrators employed in the computer systems design sector, media annual earnings were even better at some USD $72,510, likewise those involved with the management of companies and enterprises whose median earnings were USD $67,680. The last of these being pretty much identical to the lowest paid database post, the database administrator. A database developer, meanwhile, should make between USD $73,500 and USD $103,000, the third highest paid on the list. In second place is the network architect with an salary guide of USD $78,000 to USD $112,250. Which just leaves the Database manager as king of the heap, with an expected earning capability in the region of USD $84,750 to USD $116,000. And there I was thinking that databases were boring... |
