Optus has appointed John Simon as managing director for Optus Business, a role he has been acting in since early this year, following the departure of Peter Kaliaropoulos. Optus says he was chosen after "a thorough internal and external search". He has worked for Optus for four years in a number of senior roles in Optus Business. According to Optus CEO, Paul O'Sullivan, Simon played a key role in transitioning the Optus Business Mobile division into Optus Business and was instrumental in the company's acquisition of Uecomm and its pending acquisition of Alphawest. Sources within Optus Business have told ITWire that the protracted period without a permanent head of the unit has been a source of frustration, and also that a number of other senior positions with in Optus Business are presently filled only by acting holders of the posts. |
