Anatomy of a modest web site - lessons for all E-mail

We're examining the general anatomy of my web site and blogs, with snapshots taken during the month of August 2008.

First, let's take a look at web browser share -- often tagged "Browser Wars" -- one of the most obvious aspects to track.

However you won't see anything of the Google's brand new Chrome Browser, announced just a couple of days ago. But I'll certainly be monitoring it while its usage builds up over the coming weeks and months.

Due ti the relatively small number of visits to the site compared with major sites, there's a fair degree of fluctuation day-to-day and week-to-week, nevertheless the pie chart immediately below matches up pretty well with the broad industry-wide trends for Firefox and Internet Explorer:

Actually, the above is rather on the low side for Firefox, which for quite a few months I've seen to be averaging about 30 percent, and for brief periods I've seen peaking at nearly 40 percent:

On occasional days, the Firefox share drops to around 20 percent, or slightly above:

The Internet Explorer share these days averages around 60 to 65 percent, with the IE7 share generally being equal to or slightly greater than the IE6 share. And as you can see, the beta version of IE8 is beginning to make an appearance in the low single digits. Safari, Opera and all the other browsers combine to make up no more than 10 percent of the total.

If you'd like to compare my site's browser shares with the Web in general, have a look at Browser News or Browser Statistics or Browser Spy.
