5 Best Practices for Smartphone Support
If Google is about anything other than search and advertising, it's about web applications. And if it doesn't believe other people's browsers are going to cut the mustard for future web apps, the obvious answer is for the company to roll its own. But despite Rakowski's observation "Wouldn't it be great to start from scratch?", that's not exactly what Google's doing. However, it's hard to argue with Google's stated goals of improvements to stability, speed, security and user interface. Or that those security improvements need to be established in the browser's architecture, not slapped on as an afterthought. One way this will be achieved is said to be by having each browser tab associated with a different process, so that a problem in one tab should not affect or spread to the others. Furthermore, this approach will help avoid slowdowns due to memory leaks (one of the banes of my working life), as opening and closing a tab creates and destroys the memory structures associated with it - a process that can also be triggered by navigating between domains. What else is being done to improve browser security? Please read on. |
