It has been less than two months since the big Apple iPhone 3G launch, but the long wait for Pay As You Go users will soon be over according to O2. The UK mobile carrier has announced it will start selling the PAYG iPhone 3G on September 16th. But how much will it cost?

iPhone 3G is coming soon to Pay & Go. So says mobile carrier O2 loud and proud on its website. Unlike all the 'coming soon' announcements so far, this one actually names a date: September 16th.

What's more, it names a price as well. Those users who want to enjoy the iPhone 3G without a monthly contract will have to shell out UKP £349.99 for the 8GB version, while the 16GB phone will cost UKP £399.99

Surprisingly, O2 is throwing in unlimited browsing and Wi-Fi for the initial 12 months following activation, after which the unlimited data option will cost £10 per month.

This being O2 there are some restrictions on what unlimited actually is. For a start it applies to UK usage only, and is subject to the O2 'excessive usage policy' which means that unlimited is, of course, nothing of the sort.

When it comes to talk time and texting tariffs, these are priced according to how much you top up your Pay and Go account with each month. The more you pay the less it will cost, if that makes sense.

Essentially, the more you top-up each month, so the more free minutes or texts you will be allowed.

A minimum top-up of between UKP £10 and £14 will provide 500 free minutes to any UK landline or O2 mobile for example, while UKP £30 or more will bring 'unlimited' minutes.

Calling other mobile networks will cost 25p per minute, and international calls are UKP £1.50 per minute.

Data abroad is never cheap, and the PAYG Apple iPhone 3G is no exception with a 1MB download within an EU country costing UKP £3 and the same amount of data in a non EU country UKP £6...
