Page 3 of 3 The parental control aspect of the software has been improved too – all round, the software is a major upgrade, even down to showing you a graph which compares Norton usage in memory and CPU time in “yellow”, while the rest of the computer’s operations are in blue. You can also see “shaded” sections of the graph (showing a 90 minute timeline), and the shaded areas are any time when the PC was in “background” mode, giving Norton a chance to spring into action. The Norton Internet Security “user interface” or “dashboard” has also been dramatically updated and simplified, while looking similar-ish to the dashboards of the past. All in all, I’ve been very, very impressed with this new Norton Internet Security 2009. It will come sometime in September, should be available in both single user and 3-user license packs. Anyone with an earlier version of Norton Internet Security that has an up-to-date license can upgrade to NIS 2009 free of charge. Symantec also have a “surprise” up their sleeve which will challenge competitors in a big way, but as I’m sworn to NDA secrecy I can’t say what it is. But the secret will be out soon enough, and suffice to say the entire NIS 2009 package, with its stunning and almost unbelievable performance, looks set to continue as the market leader for some time to come.
