Page 2 of 2 One of the researchers, Rosie King, stated, "We found 38 per cent of mature men and 29 per cent of mature women were having sex more than once a week. That's a significant amount of older men and women having a lot of sex, perhaps more than many of us suspected." [The Age: “Older Aussies heating up the bedroom”] On the bad side, the researchers noted the following sexual problems: in men, the most common difficulties were early ejaculation (23%), erectile problems (21%), and lack of interest (18%); while in women the most common problems included lack of sexual interest (33%), lubrication problems (26%), and inability to reach orgasm (25%). King commented, "For a lot of these women, their sex drive isn't like what they see on Sex and the City or read about in romance novels so they think there's something wrong with them, when it's totally normal.” [The Age] Only a minority of men and women who experience such problems seek medical help. According to the abstract to their paper, the researchers concluded, “Many middle-aged and older adults in Australia report continued sexual interest and sexual activity. Several sexual difficulties are highly prevalent in this population, but those experiencing these difficulties rarely seek medical help. This may be because they do not perceive such difficulties as serious or sufficiently upsetting.”
