Microsoft IE8 Beta 2 released: the web browser for jerk-offs? E-mail

The latest Beta version of Internet Explorer 8 has been released in US English, German and Chinese languages. But whatever language you speak, Microsoft seems to think you are a bunch of wankers...

Microsoft tell me that Internet Explorer 8 has been "updated to reflect the way Internet use has changed" and that it "works the way people think" in the press release I received today announcing the arrival of IE8 Beta 2.

Which is nice, especially considering that it incorporates what Microsoft is calling the InPrivate Browsing feature. This is best said, by the way, while sniggering in a schoolboy fashion.

InPrivate Browsing provides the functionality to suspend browser caching, search history, cookies and disable saving of form data and passwords for good measure.

Here is the full list of things that happen during an InPrivate Browsing session according to the Microsoft developers:

  • New cookies are not stored
  • All new cookies become “session” cookies
  • Existing cookies can still be read
  • The new DOM storage feature behaves the same way
  • New history entries will not be recorded
  • New temporary Internet files will be deleted after the Private Browsing window is closed
  • Form data is not stored
  • Passwords are not stored
  • Addresses typed into the address bar are not stored
  • Queries entered into the search box are not stored
  • Visited links will not be stored

It does all of this while you are doing whatever it is you don't want anyone else to know about. You know, things like using someone else's computer or catching up with the Celine Dion fan club pages.

Or, of course, knocking one out while looking at Internet porn. Yes, this is technology being updated to reflect how Internet use has changed, to work the way we think.

Yes, this is Microsoft Porn Mode. Yes, this is the web browser for wankers.

However, the InPrivate function is sure to be a big hit as it suspends the automatic caching functionality only temporarily and does not impact upon the rest of your browsing history.

"These new features will easily allow you to protect you information against criminal minds or simple nosy-parks" John Curran, Director of the Windows Client Group at Microsoft UK said. I just heard masturbating Microsoft users, it has to be said.

OK, knuckle shuffler technology apart, what else is new and exciting in Microsoft IE8 Beta 2? Find out on page 2...
