How to Google without Google E-mail

Built by Finnish blogger Timo Paloheimo using the Google Custom Search Engine, Google minus Google actually doesn't do anything new.

As previously stated, the filtering system has been in place for Google users for years. But what Timo has done is all the donkey work to enable Googling without Google to be as easy as using, well, Google.

So no Blogger results, no YouTube results, no Knol results.

What Timo has done is compile a list of more than 2500 domains which represent Google properties, and excluded them from the search. He says that "it needed some work to compile" and readily admits to being "sure I have missed something."

So it isn't perfect by any means. Nor is it a charitable exercise.

Google minus Google runs advertising which is linked to the AdSense account of Timo Paloheimo. Apparently this was the reason he had to remove the Google logo from the site as it conflicted with the AdSense ToS.

But still, Googling without Google does make a refreshing change. Now, I wonder if we can persuade Mr Paloheimo to add a little preferences widget so we can remove Wikipedia, Facebook and MySpace from the game?
