Well, that's a very good question, isn't it.

If you need Telstra's speed and coverage, then now is a good time to jump in, because Telstra moves very slowly and I don't think we'll see a better offer from Telstra for months and months.

Of course, Telstra might move much faster than that, but given they only moved last week, any sudden new moves from them are unlikely.

But if you don't need Telstra's speed, range, or prices, then I believe that now is definitely NOT the right time to jump into any mobile broadband deal, because who knows what better deal is coming next week, or next month, or the month after that, from Vodafone, Optus itself or 3 Mobile?

Especially given the fact that Optus’ network is being used by more people and wholesale customers than ever, the next few months should offer some amazing deals. Who will be first to breach the 20GB barrier?

If 2008 is shaping up to be the year that mobile broadband hit the double digits in terms of download limits for consumers, 2009 promises to be the year that mobile broadband truly blooms, at long last.

But the telcos need to continue building capacity, or the year of mobile broadband could easily become the year of mobile fraudband, and nobody but nobody wants that!
