Microsoft are being coy about Blue Track, but some intrepid cyber-snoopers have uncovered what looks to be a new piece of hardware from Microsoft, the laserless mouse.

First reported as a teaser video from Microsoft with the tag line of “Say Goodbye to Laser”, we were all set to wait until September 9th for an announcement.

But, it looks like those having a guess on what it means may have indeed got it right.

Microsoft are set to release a new blue LED based pointing device, known as Blue Track.

According to the folks at Engadget who, with the help of an intrepid reader, tracked down a MS Explorer Mini Mouse with ‘Blue Track’ technology on Amazon.de

File under ‘Rumour’ for now, but according to the report on Engadget; “Blue Track [is] based on a blue LED combined with a wide-angle lens that's supposed to work on more surfaces than laser and optical. Microsoft only really seems to be aiming this at the portable spectrum, hence the wireless adapter and miniature size, so perhaps Blue Track isn't the end of laser after all.”
