Phone companies adding to iPhone 3G woes? E-mail

Clearly, no carrier benefits from poor voice service.

Well, if you wanted to be really cynical you might suggest that once they've signed up customers on a two year contract they don't really care, but that would be taking short-term thinking to an extreme. If you can't make calls reliably, what's the point of having a mobile?

Deliberately downgrading voice connectivity is surely a route to disaster for any carrier. The anti-iPhone lobby might take the opportunity to mock, but what happens when the next big thing comes from one of their favoured handset manufacturers?

However, none of this explains why some people have experienced problems with one iPhone yet have had much better results with a replacement. As I observed yesterday, we have yet to see the final resolution of the iPhone 3G mystery.
