CERN announces success of final LHC synch test E-mail

The primary purpose for the LHC is to test validity and limitations of the Standard Model, which is the current theory of particle physics that brings together three of the four known fundamental interactions (forces) of elementary particles that make up all matter of the universe.

These forces are the electromagnetic force, weak nuclear force, and strong nuclear force. The fourth force not included in the Standard Model is gravitation force.

Scientists are hopeful that the LHC will produce the Higgs boson, a theoretical type of particle that some scientist think may give mass to all particles.

To prove that the Higgs boson exists could help strengthen the validity of the Standard Model theory.

An overview of the LHC is found at CERN’s website “The Large Hadron Collider.”
