CNN says that its on-air programs often solicit questions to pose to newsmakers and guests via iReport.com. "iReporters have been featured on The Situation Room where selected questions have been answered by presidential candidates, John McCain and Barack Obama, and newsmakers such as former presidential candidate Mitt Romney and Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi." Since the February launch of iReport.com in beta, CNN has added a number of enhancements, most recently iReport.com/maps which uses Google Maps to display the location of iReporters and of the stories they are filing. Using this feature, users can view iReports by categories such as latest submissions, highest rated, most viewed, most commented, and those that have made it onto CNN's main news sites. Other recent upgrades include: - an 'Edit my story' function that allows a user to edit a posting after they have uploaded it; - the ability for users to email reports to others; - a flash video wall on the homepage that dynamically displays the most recent iReports submitted; - The ability for an author to receive an email when someone post a comment to their story. This week CNN celebrated the second anniversary of iReport, its system for the public to submit news items to CNN editors, saying it had received more than 175,000 contribution in total and that these are now running at 15,000 per month. The amount of video and photo submissions has almost trebled in the past 12 months.
