At AU$200 cheaper than a PS3, Microsoft have let loose the new triple capacity 60GB Xbox 360 Pro onto Australian retail.

If might still be smaller than the one offering Sony have in the market, a 80GB PS3 (due on sale in late August) but the mid-range Xbox 360 has now tripled its capacity to a 60GB HDD.

Plus Xbox 360 potential purchasers in Australia at least have model options.

The zero HDD Arcade Xbox 360 priced better than a Nintendo Wii right up to the HDMI equipped 120GB Xbox 360 Elite.  Though without a TV and Movie download service available, it is questionable what an Australian Elite owner will plonk on their (by console standards) massive 120GB drive.

So the most popular option has always been the 20GB Pro, hence the focus from Microsoft to improve the value.

At AU$499 (AU$200 cheaper than the PS3), punters can now get hold of a 60GB Xbox (the ‘Pro’ moniker has actually been dropped), with wireless controller, headset, HDMI connectivity and Silver Xbox LIVE membership.
