North American study finds fairness major factor in employee success or failure E-mail

Leiter writes on his website, “Organizations throughout the post-industrial world are increasingly concerned with employees' relationships with their work. Throughout the 1990's, severe strains were imposed on employees in the wake of downsizing, corporate restructuring, and globalization. Measures of absenteeism and long-term disability indicate an increasing disaffection with work, as well as health problems at work."

He adds, "Juxtaposed to this reality is the fact that the competitive information/service economy is calling for a workforce capable of coming up with creative ideas and fulfilling client relationships on an ongoing basis.”

Leiter and Maslach talk more about exhaustion at work in their Stanford University (California, U.S.A.) article “Reversing Burnout: How to rekindle your passion for your work.”

They have also written a book called “The Truth About Burnout: How Organizations Cause Personal Stress and What To Do About It,” which was published by Jossey-Bass Publishers in 1997.

Maslach has also written the books "The Burnout: The Cost of Caring," in 1982, by Prentice Hall, and "The Maslach Burnout Inventory" (with S.E. Jackson), in 1986, by Consulting Psychologists Press.
