NICTA, Australia's information and communications technology research centre of excellence, has appointed John Parker as its chief technology officer, implant technologies.

NICTA's Acting CEO Dr Phil Robertson welcomed Dr Parker’s appointment. "High calibre research and entrepreneurial skills are central to NICTA's role as an ICT centre of excellence," said acting CEO Phil Robertson.

"Dr Parker's achievements in both areas are well known, and I look forward to the new generation of medical devices he will seek to develop as NICTA's CTO, Implant Technologies."

From 2002 to 2007, Parker was CTO of 'bionic ear' company Cochlear. He is a fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering.
