Western North America gets best shot for 2008 Perseid meteor shower E-mail

That relates to over one meteor per minute, on average, for this maximum viewing time for the Perseids, but several per minute are possible—what is called the “clumping” effect.

However, on the other hand, you may not see one for several minutes until you finally see several all at once. You never know until it happens!

Look up in the northeastern night sky in the direction of the Double Star Cluster (NGC 869 and NGC884) of the constellation Perseus.

Watch them with the unaided eyes for the best visualization—without binoculars or a telescope.

Just because you may not be located in the western portion of North America, you still should be able to see a good showing for the Perseids further east in North America.
