PwnageTool 2.0.2 for iPhone 2G and 3G released at last

The sparkling is back, with the iPhone Dev Team releasing the keenly awaited PwnageTool 2.0.2, bringing an unlock and jailbreak to the iPhone 2G, and jailbreaks to the iPhone 3G and iPod Touch. PwnageTool 2.0.2 is here for all those users wanting to update to the iPhone and iPod Touch OS 2.0.1 and run whatever software they like, rather than being forced to only use apps from Apple’s “App Store”. The release followed the hiccup of an initial release that was quickly taken down after a bug was discovered which needed urgent squishing. The release was also delayed the day before because Installer 4 beta was essentially ready for public consumption, and the Dev Team didn’t want to release two versions of the PwnageTool in quick succession. The Dev Team admonished those who thought it was serious when its previous message suggested the team needed sleep, saying: “Did you think we’d sleep? really?”. Given that the PwnageTool 2.0.2 is only available for Macs, Windows users either need to download one of the custom firmware versions or wait for WinPwn to be updated, something that should happen quickly but could easily face a delay of a day or two.
