730,000 Brits chat on mobile phones during sex E-mail

In what is probably one of the odder surveys to land in our inbox this month, gadget use in the UK is revealed in some disturbing detail by iGizmo magazine...

"BOG OFF! I'm on the phone" was the email subject line screaming at me from my inbox, and as it has made it through the spam filter, the phishing filter and the malware filter I thought I might be brave enough to open it up for a read.

I wasn't quite prepared for the results of the survey into the gadget habits of the British, undertaken by iGizmo which confronted me though.

I mean, did I really want to know that some 35 percent of Brits admit to using their mobile phones whilst going to the loo? Or worse still, whilst having sex or at a funeral? Hopefully not all three at the same time.

The magazine claims that "much like airhead hotel heiress Paris Hilton" a reference to the infamous sex video that circulated online and included Paris interrupting the act to answer her mobile (so I am reliably informed as I have never seen it myself, honest, never, not at all) some "730,000 of the UK’s population have chatted on their mobile while in the throes of passion with a lover."

More worryingly, 2 percent did the on the phone at a funeral thing.

Still, to give the Brits a bit of dignity back, the survey also revealed that a mobile phone and an MP3 player are ranked higher on the list of priorities than beer, wine, spirits and smoking.

Then it all went pear-shaped again as 9 percent of under 16s said their mobile was more important than family and health...

Ross Burridge, Editor of iGizmo, told us “We’re a nation that loves our gadgets and it seems we take our mobiles everywhere with us - even to the lavatory. It’s amazing to think that some people will even chat and text while in the throes of passion or at funerals. Our survey also revealed some even stranger places that people admitted using their mobiles, such as while having a filling - and even during a rectal examination.”
