Cornered! is a blog devoted, most of the time anyway, to telecommunications: local and global issues, technology, people and trends from the perspective of someone who's been reporting, analysing and commenting on the industry since the dark ages (BC - before competition). Sometimes serious, sometimes flippant, sometimes frivolous. Controversial, analytical, informative, amusing, but never boring; a vehicle for examinations of important issues and observations on my encounters and experiences in an industry where polarised views and hyperbole are the norm.

As the latter account for the bulk of Australian Internet customers, one has to wonder just how useful this trial has been. The real test of the technology will come in the next phase: a test of filter technologies in a real world environment with a number of ISPs and Internet users. An expression of interest request will be released shortly seeking participants. However there seems to be little doubt in Conroy's mind that implementation will go ahead, regardless of the outcome. "We are interested to see the results of filtering in real-world conditions and I encourage ISPs to participate. This will enable the implementation of ISP filtering in Australia to be undertaken in an informed and effective way." |
