Page 2 of 3 So, the question then becomes, “What’s the big deal, developers?”Naturally, any third party developers that didn’t get any forewarning can justifiably complain. But they know about it now, the accessory won’t arrive until likely next year, and 2009 will be the Wii MotionPlus era. So, quit yer bitchin’ and get programming, you’ve got plenty of time and gamers really want to see some solid third party titles, instead of the less than inspiring stuff some third party developers have lumbered gamers with to date. Another big complaint from Wii owners is the 512MB of inbuilt memory fills up quickly, what with Virtual Console games, WiiWare games and other downloadable add-ons. Gamers can transfer some titles to SD card to them re-load later, or they can re-download them, but it’s a pain – why can’t gamers just stick an 8GB SD card into the slot and presto, storage space galore? Because games are forbidden to run from third party devices such as SD cards or USB sticks with such a feature disabled, most likely due to Nintendo fearing piracy, hacks and cracks, all of which will lower its income and those of its developer community. Clearly, Nintendo could enable such a feature if it wanted to in a firmware update. But figuring out the piracy issue is tough – after all, what out there hasn’t been hacked? Well, MTV Multiplayer has spoken to Nintendo America President Reggie Fils-Aime again. What did he say? Continued on page 3. |
