Does your dream job involve developing proof of concept attacks on iPhone security? Have you been involved with reverse engineering and security communities online? Yes, if you want to hack the iPhone for a living then Apple wants to hear from you...

I had to do a double take when I was pointed towards this job offer which appears on the official Apple website.

But it seems to be kosher: Apple is looking to employ a hacker to tackle iPhone security issues.

In fact, Apple has been looking for an iPhone hacker since September 2007 as that's when the job was first advertised yet does not appear to have found anyone who fits the bill.

According to requisition number 3165685 for the job of 'iPhone Security Engineer' to be based in the Santa Clara Valley area of California, Apple wants a an exceptional individual to "validate the security architecture" of the iPhone.

The set of responsibilities sure looks like a hacker to-do list as far as dream jobs go:

  • Review and provide feedback on security mechanisms implemented in OS X
  • Provide risk analysis of potential security threats to our embedded products
  • Develop "proof of concept" attacks on the current security mechanisms
  • Come up with new and innovative ways of increasing security while preserving ease-of-use and increasing the quality of the end-user experience
  • Work cooperatively with other parts of CoreOS on cross-functional technologies and initiatives to enhance security and security policies

So, anyone fancy a job hacking the iPhone without breaking the law or ruffling any Apple feathers? Read on for more information and why the job could prove to be more than a little time consuming...
