But Neary apparently exists in a binary world. In other words, you see the world according to Neary or you're wrong. And, if you're wrong, then you have to be something not quite like an ordinary human being. This kind of view has been popularised by one man - the character whom the Daily Show's Jon Stewart refers to as "still president" - George Dubya Bush. "You're either with us or with the terrorists," is how George puts it. There is another breed which follows the same kind of fundamentalism - the Taliban who are slowly creeping back to power in Afghanistan. When journalists err in describing something technical, there are a great many technical folk who creep out and begin to pour scorn on said journo. But when a person who's associated with software, even in a marketing capacity, behaves in a manner that would make Mrs Malaprop proud, why that is par for the course. It could never be a double standard - after all, we are dealing with software engineers here. |
