iPhone Dev Team jailbreak tool still due “soon”... E-mail

So all those iPhone 2G owners out there, like myself, will probably find that the PwnageTool will arrive sometime over the weekend, or early next week.

Unlike the months it took the first time, this tool will have arrived less than two weeks after the iPhone 3G, and more importantly for original iPhone owners, the iPhone 2.0 OS.

As an iPod Touch owner too, I’m already enjoying the benefits (and the annoying bugs) of the OS 2.0 software, and can’t wait to use it on my iPhone, but I really don’t want an iBrick!

It’s also useful to remember that once Apple release an update to iPhone OS 2.0, such as the rumoured iPhone OS 2.0.1, the Dev Team will likely have to get coding again to undo or bypass whatever new protections Apple puts in place instead.

But that’s the price you pay when you hack away at your iPhone. Want the latest and greatest without issues? Go and buy it.

Want to play with hacking tools? Then be patient and wait, so the people responsible can put out the best tool they can. It’s pretty simple stuff, really.

And as the iPhone Dev Team is still working on an unlock for the iPhone 3G, the only way to do it at the moment is by use of a special “sim card” adapter to fool your iPhone 3G into thinking it’s using an authorised SIM.

We already heard about the Brazilian team that achieved it, now some guys in Vietnam have done the same thing too.

So until a proper software unlock for the iPhone 3G comes out, the SIM card add-on will be the only way to go, although iPhone 2G owners will have the PwnageTool at their disposal in a Mac version first, meaning you’ll need to find yourself a Mac owner if you aren’t one already!

A Windows version will likely be created by the person that made WinPwn in the first place but once the PwnageTool is out, a Windows version shouldn’t be too far away.

The waiting game continues. But it should be over... soon!
