Citrix announces “virtual machines on any hypervisor” project E-mail

Of course, Citrix doesn’t want to give the virtualisation business away to Microsoft, especially given that the solutions Microsoft usually gives away “free” are always outperformed by third party software.

Citrix says that “Project Kensho will support the vision of the ‘Citrix Delivery Center product family’, helping customers transform static datacenters into dynamic “delivery centers” for the best performance, security, cost savings and business agility.”

Citrix also touts its “Workflow Studio” based orchestrations which can “provide an automated, environment for managing the import and export of applications from any major virtualization platform”, which tools developed through Project Kensho can easily integrate into.

To conclude, the OVF standard looks set to ensure virtualisation becomes even more entrenched in business than in already is today, with greater interoperability benefits than ever seen before.

Giving companies an even easier way to switch between virtualisation platforms will only force each player to come up with even better reasons to use their platform over the competition, with business customers in the box seat.
