Australian search results for Google.com and Google.com.au combined for a total of 87.81% in the four weeks leading to June 28, 2008, jumping from 78.55% in June 2007 – an 11.79% increase year-on-year! Meanwhile, MSN Search (Microsoft) achieved only a 6.72% share in the same June 2008 period, and Yahoo scraped in a 3.93%. Another 42 search engines could collectively only claim a 1.54% share. In the US, Google’s share of the market in June 2008 reached 69.17%, with Yahoo at a much more respectable 19.62% and MSN lagging at only 5.46%. But compared with June 2007, only Google has grown from 63.98% to the 69.17% figure. Yahoo has dipped from what was a 21.33% share and MSN has dipped from last year’s 9.86% achievement. The US results come from a Hitwise sample of 10 million US users. Continued on page 2. |
