Page 1 of 2 The location for the donation is Hamilton Sundstrand Corporation (part of United Technologies), the designer of the new space capsule toilet, at 2200 Space Park, Houston, Texas, just south of the NASA Johnson Space Center. Hamilton Sundstrand works in the NASA programs of extravehicular mobility unit, environmental control & life support systems, and srew, robotics, and vehicle equipment. To find the drop-off site: Drive on NASA Road One south of the space center, make a right onto Upper Bay Road, and then a left onto Space Park Drive. Stop at any gas station, if necessary. The directions to the address are found at “Google Maps: 2200 Space Park.” Representatives for Hamilton Sundstrand state that all donations will be treated with a chemical so any particulate matter in the liquid will not damage the tubing within the toilet system when in a microgravity environment. Leo Makowski, a company spokesperson for Hamilton Sundstrand, explains, "This is a preliminary test to see if this chemical is going to work the same way as it did on the [space] shuttle.” Discovery News: “NASA Wants Your Urine”] NASA systems manager Jim Lewis added, “It's difficult to come up with a faux urine. That’s why we depend on collections." [Discovery News] However, for you potential pee-provider persons, there are a few rules to follow. Please turn the page to find out about these rules. |
