iPhone OS 2.0 unlocked but tool not yet available E-mail

Looking at the YouTube video, the app is clearly running on Mac OS X, but as a Windows version of the Pwnage tool has previously been made available, it’s only natural to assume that Windows users will get a version of the new unlock tool, too.

The other well known iPhone hacker Zibri of Ziphone.org fame has also promised to release software to unlock the iPhone OS 2.0, but his software too will not arrive immediately.

While Zibri hasn’t give any release dates we can only assume his software will come out sometime next week, too.

Unlocking the iPhone OS 2.0 software means that original iPhone 2G owners will be able to get the benefits of the new 2.0 features but still use any SIM card they want, and personally that’s what I’m waiting for.

Of course the iPhone OS 2.0 software is reported to now be officially downloaded via iTunes, and despite some initial difficulties in getting through as the servers were flooded with users trying to update, other reports suggest the storm has passed and the software is now available to download.

If you’ve got an iPhone 2G or an iPod Touch, and you’ve installed iTunes 7.7 you can try for yourself, although if you need the unlock your best bet is to wait until the unlock tools become available, first.

Then we’ll see reports of how well it works and there will likely be “walkthroughs” online from various sources showing any novices what needs to be done, although the Pwnage tool (and Zibri’s tool) are very easy to use, with the Pwnage tool coming with lots of on-screen pictures and instructions to further walk you through the process.
